"Aye blue dress"

MY NAME IS ALEXIS!

Sometimes I hate guys......yes sometimes I hate guys and no I'm not a man hater.

I dislike being "chose" or "hollered at" which ever one your familiar with. What ever happened to coming up and saying "Hello, how are you?" instead of "Ayeee yo you...naww you in da white shirt come hurr....whyy you walkin away?? mane fuck yo ugglass anyways my main bitch red". Okay maybe the last one was a stretch but you get the point. Its annoying and disrespectful! Can I breathe? Can you not look at me like I'm prey?!!?

I know typing about isn't going to stop it from happening but sometimes a girl gotta rant.

Undecided Major.

One of the questions your're going to get most while being a senior in HS or in college is "What is your major?" from your family, fellow peers and teachers. For some of you it's a no brainer you know you were born to be the next top lawyer in the state or to be a buisness man. As the for the rest of us, we're still trying to figure it out aka "liberal arts majors" dipping our toes into almost every area of the work fields. It's a lost feeling sorta, you know what you don't wanna do but you don't know what it is that you want to do. Just like my favorite 90's cartoon Daria said "My goal is to not to wake up at 40 with the bitter realization that I've wasted my life on a job I hate, because I was forced to choose to a job in my teens."

Sexual harrassment : Middle/ High School

When your eleven you start developing or you started already. You start wearing bras and all the boys in class would laugh, be amazed or even pick with them. That's where it all starts. Your hips are starting show all the boys notice. Trading in pigtails for a free flowing hair du, those cute little gymshoes are now leather ankle boots. You are becoming a young woman.

When you hear the term young woman, you think of something strong. Maybe even independent, beautiful, charming, smart, witty and optimistic. Those are all true. What about what goes on beyond what we know or what we choose to talk about. What about when you had to pick out clothes to avoid harassment for that school day or when you had to avoid walking past the group of boys so they wouldn't talk about your breasts. Or maybe for the other perspective if you had to avoid wearing something or walking past that group of guys because they would talk about your boyish figure. Why don't we talk about those things.

Sexual Harassment isn't always black and white. I have had my butt grabbed countless times without knowing who it was or without my consent. Why do young boys think this is an okay thing to do? What gives them the right to do the reckless things they do. We are equal human beings don't make me feel like a lesser one.

Living at home while in College. THE GOOD AND BAD

Well I never thought I would be in my room right now. Not in a million years, due to bad planning. All of the money I spent on apps and acceptance letters I have, I'm still at home taking classes. At the place I talked about! Man oh man I thought I would be down and out but overall, I'm doing just fine. I have a lot of freedom and time to save up money. I'm blessed and proud to be a college student. Anywhoo... back to regular programming I'm going to tell you why staying home is good and bad.

The Good.
  1. Home cooked meals- Should I say more? Nope didn't think so.
  2. Free gym membership- No LA fitness bill for me humph
  3. Comfy bed- You don't even have to get up every morning YES!
  4. Money- You still have cash flow from the family. "Aint nothin mo important den da mula" -Big Sean
  5. No crazy roommate- Just watch the movie.

The Bad.

  1. Nagging family- "ALEEXXXXIIIIISSSSSS can you please fix my headscarf?" Man I wish I could run away.
  2. Social life could be better- I have an excellent social life but If I stayed on campus it would be the bomb ya know?
  3. Breaks between classes- I really want to take a nap and I can't
  4. Friends who stay in dorms- They tell you the crazy stories and your like "uhh huh okay?"
  5. Changing weather- Maybe I wish I could change into some boots some days but I can't because my clothes are at home.
So hopefully I answered some questions on how it is living at home while at college its bittersweet.

Go out and Vote!

If you are over the age of 18, please register to vote. I don't care what party you’re with or if you don't believe in any party. Just go ahead and vote! Why would you want anyone else to make decisions for you? Do your part as a citizen and vote for your rights. So many people ahead of you fought for these things and many people just say voting is dumb. You have a voice and you have a right. So go ahead and use it. If this is your first time voting by all means go ahead and get an absentee ballot and practice. You can research everything on your ballot, just to make sure you know what you’re voting for. I know a lot of people my age barely know anything about politics except for the fact that Obama was the first black president, Mitt Romney says “Keep America American” and what happened with Bill Clinton (Lewinsky) which is bad. Keep your future in mind this election day.

We are young! So many issues going on now are going to affect us later on. We will have no Social Security and we’re going to be working forever! A lot of us are in college and look at how tuition is rising, I could barely afford my colleges of choice. So many other things will be on this ballot other than the presidency. Actually a lot of things will be on there other than the national government. I know I might keep on saying this but don’t just sit at home on the couch on election day.  Go out there and vote for your young ones so they won’t have to suffer through and economic meltdown. Vote because your country depends on it. Your voice is worth so much, if you’re reading this and you’re from the U.S.A. please vote.
To keep everything non-partisan, here’s a few websites that you can check out, to know some more facts about the candidates and more:
So please, please go out and vote you guys J It’s more important than you know!

The term "Oreo"

I cannot fathom the chill I get when someone calls me that. All my life I have been called that, no matter what neighborhood I lived in.  I mostly hear, "Why you talk like dat?" and "You be round dem white people don't Chu?" from various people all time. Just because I pronounce my words and do things differently I’m white in the inside? It's the most annoying thing I hear all the time. Why do I have to be around all white people or not like black people? I do have friends that are outside of my race but plenty in my race. Sometimes the sad thing is that some people are actually thinking they are complementing me. Just a couple of days ago some guy was trying to approach me (obviously the wrong way) and I didn't hear him. When I said something back to him he said "ooh you like them white bwooys don’t cha ha-ha" that truly pissed me off. That's not the first time I heard that or something similar to that either. "Alexis you would be sooooooo cute with a white guy aha" why do I have to get with a white guy? I have nothing against interracial dating but why does it seem that way?  It’s funny because I went to a movie with my long time best friend and her friend from school (which is a majority white all-girls private school) and she called me ghetto. I have never been called that in my life. So when I’m with my own race I act too “white” but when I go around white people I’m “ghetto” hmm? This is something I will never understand. I still feel like a little girl who in grade school who gets taunted by her classmates when someone call me those things.
This is another issue in the black community that we need to stop.  Why do you have to be “white” to speak a certain way or like certain things?  Light skin vs. Dark skin is also another issue here’s an article by Sierra Boone http://brownstonemagazine.com/hues-of-beauty   you can also see her interview on Hello Jello J

Another rant by you know who.
